Comparative Study of Classical and MPC Control for Single-Phase MMC Based on V-HIL Simulations

The operation of single-phase Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is analyzed in the paper. A mathematical model converter developed and described, based on which structure selection parameters for Classical Control Optimal Switching State Model Predictive (OSS-MPC) are defined. Additionally, procedure determination circuit parameters, such as submodule capacitance arm inductance, described carried out. listed control methods designed evaluated Virtual Hardware-in-the-Loop together with MMC power circuit, regarding three objectives: AC current control, voltage balancing circulating control. both steady-state transient performance compared nine criteria: reference tracking, THD voltage, capacitor balancing, total magnitude THD, number computational complexity. This first time that a fair comparison between MPC considered literature, resulting superior four different criteria same tracking.
